Carnies smash the London Marathon!
We had a number of Carn Runners in London at the weekend running in the London Marathon. Well done to them all. Not only did they all run some fantastic times but some were also raising lots of much needed funds for their chosen charities.
Andy Millward had a good for age place in this year’s race and was first Carnie home in a very impressive time of 3:25.26.
Dawn Scallan was next and the first Carn lady in a time of 4:11.14. She was running for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and raised well over £2000.
Marlene Grobler was chasing Dawn to the finish and finished in a time of 4:22.38.
Amanda Lawry was running her first marathon and finished in a time of 4:38.28. She was raising money for JDRF and has exceeded her target of £2000.
Greg May overcame injury to complete his London Marathon in 4:48.12.
Laura won this year’s club ballot and along with Andy ran in memory of her sister Sue and raising money for Bowel Cancer UK. They have raised well in excess of £2500. She ran it in 4:57.44.
Jo Smitheram finally got to run her first marathon having won the club place in 2019 and having to defer it during Covid. Jo was raising money for Macmillan and has more than doubled her target with over £1000. She ran a time of 5:34.10.
Claire Payne ran her first marathon with her best friend’s husband in aid of Bowel Cancer UK in a time of 6:47.40. She also raised over £2500.
Finally not to feel left out Steve Webb ran closer to home in the virtual London Marathon event and achieved his first sub 4 hour marathon finishing in 3:50.42
Anyone feeling inspired…the ballot for 2024 closes on Friday 28th April.
