Janets’s Brisk Run Along the Granite Way

Jan Richie

In mid-February, Janet embarked on a refreshing 5-mile run along a section of the Granite Way, which “blow away the cobwebs.” The Granite Way is an 11-mile multi-use trail running between Okehampton and Lydford, largely following the course of a former railway line. This scenic route skirts the northwestern edge of Dartmoor National Park, offering users picturesque views of the surrounding landscapes.

During the run, Janet faced a bitterly cold east wind sweeping off Dartmoor, adding a brisk challenge to the endeavor. Despite the chill, the trail provided stunning vistas, including clear views across to Sourton Tor. Sourton Tor is a notable collection of rocky outcrops located high above the village of Sourton, offering panoramic views of the area.

Reflecting on the experience, Janet shared, “A quick 5-mile blast along part of the Granite Way to blow away the cobwebs. And blow it did! Bitter cold east wind sweeping off Dartmoor, but great views across to Sourton Tor!”

Unfortunately, Dennis is currently sidelined due to a calf strain, entering the third week of recovery. Despite the setback, he continue to support Janet from the sidelines, embodying the resilient spirit of Carn Runners.
