On a recent Wednesday evening, Carn Runners turned their regular club night into an exciting landmark challenge, encouraging members to explore and celebrate the rich heritage of Camborne and Redruth.
Departing from our usual meeting point at Camborne Cricket Club, runners formed groups and set out on a mission: to capture as many local landmarks as possible during their run. Armed with smartphones and a sense of adventure, participants navigated the towns’ streets and trails, documenting their journey with photographs of notable sites.
Highlights of the evening included visits to:
Carn Brea Monument: Standing atop Carn Brea hill, this iconic granite obelisk commemorates Francis Basset and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Redruth’s Mining Heritage Sites: Participants explored various sites that reflect the region’s rich industrial past. Art from a local artist named Cosmic and many more local landmarks.
The challenge fostered teamwork and creativity, with runners strategising routes to maximize their landmark count while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all fitness levels.
After the run, members reconvened to share their photos and stories, highlighting the diverse routes and discoveries made during the evening. The event not only promoted physical activity but also deepened our appreciation for the local history and community.
We extend our gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and to the run leaders for orchestrating such a memorable event. Stay tuned for future themed runs that combine fitness, fun, and local exploration!
