Bex’s Muddy Triumph at North Cornwall Half Marathon

Bex’s Muddy Triumph at North Cornwall Half Marathon

On Saturday, January 11th, 2025, Carn Runners’ Bex faced the formidable North Cornwall Half Marathon, part of the Endurancelife Coastal Trail Series in Polzeath. Renowned for its challenging terrain and breathtaking coastal views, this year’s race was exceptionally demanding due to unprecedented mud conditions.

The course, extending approximately 13.6 miles, took participants along the rugged North Cornwall coastline, encompassing the stunning Pentire Peninsula, peaceful fishing villages, and picturesque valleys. However, the recent weather had transformed the trails into a mud-laden obstacle course, making footing treacherous and progress arduous.

Bex completed the race in 3 hours and 32 minutes, a testament to her determination and resilience under such trying conditions. Reflecting on the experience, she shared, “Well… It was muddy, not normal muddy, not even very muddy, it was ridiculous muddy. We skated, climbed, and almost fell off the side of the cliff muddy. The time doesn’t matter; getting through it alive was the end goal today.”

Despite the physical toll, including a sore right ankle, Bex’s spirit remains undeterred. When asked about participating again, she remarked, “Will I do it again next year? Probably, as I don’t say no to these stupid endeavors.”

Congratulations to Bex for her remarkable perseverance and for embodying the adventurous spirit of Carn Runners. Her achievement serves as an inspiration to all, demonstrating that with grit and determination, even the muddiest challenges can be overcome.
