March 2025 has been an eventful month for Carn Runners, showcasing our members’ dedication, achievements, and community spirit. Here’s a recap of our activities:
Pub Quiz Success and Camborne to Hayle Run
On Sunday, 2nd March, members participated in the inaugural monthly pub quiz night, with one team securing third place and winning chicken nuggets among the meat prizes. Earlier that weekend, seven members enjoyed a scenic run from Camborne to Hayle, culminating in refreshments at Gilbert’s and a train ride back.



Several members tackled the challenging Looe 10-Miler, known as the “Hillish and Hellish” race. Despite the demanding course, participants achieved notable successes, with Tommy placing first in his age group, and Glynn and Jan securing third in theirs.

Pub Run and Macmillan Fundraiser
During a Wednesday club night, members embarked on a unique “pub crawl” run, capturing photos in front of various pubs along their route. The evening concluded with a fundraising event hosted by Kat, who provided soup to support Macmillan Cancer Services. Donations can still be made via her JustGiving page.



















Janet’s Bideford Half Marathon
Janet represented Carn Runners at the Bideford Half Marathon, demonstrating her commitment and endurance over the 13.1-mile course.



Several members participated in the Granite Way 20-Mile Race, with Janet Watson achieving first place in her age group. The club also extended well-wishes to Tony Chapman, who experienced a fall during the event but has now recovered.




Social Runs
Throughout the month, members organised various social runs, exploring scenic routes and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow runners. Notable outings included a 6-mile run around Boscawen and Malpas with Zoe, and distances ranging from 8 to 16 miles from Camborne to Hayle. The Friday group experienced diverse weather conditions, culminating in a beautiful double rainbow.

Members participated in the Falmouth Half Marathon, with Tommy and Glynn placing first in their age groups. Tori celebrated breaking the 2-hour mark, showcasing the club’s collective achievements.




On Sunday, 16th March, four members—Zoe, Janet, Sarah, and Joanne—completed the Bath Half Marathon. Zoe achieved a personal best, expressing gratitude for the support from fellow Carnies.



During a Wednesday club evening, members ascended Carn Entral in Camborne to witness a breathtaking sunset, followed by refreshments at the Camborne Cricket Club.

Friday Group’s Weather Challenge
The Friday running group braved a mix of rain, hail, thunder, lightning, and sunshine during a 4-mile run, rewarded with the sight of a magnificent double rainbow.


On Sunday, 23rd March, Andy and Laura participated in Spain’s historic Elche Half Marathon, reconnecting with former members Kim and Gary, who now reside in Spain.



Winter Warmer Series Conclusion
The club concluded its Winter Warmer series with a final 2.3-mile loop on Wednesday, 26th March, and introduced the upcoming ‘Blossom Blast’ for the summer season.

Kew Gardens 10K and London Outing
Members participated in the Kew Gardens 10K on Saturday, 29th March, with Sandy securing second place in her age group. The day continued with a performance of Les Misérables and a group meal in London.




Janet tackled the challenging terrain of Cardinham Woods, completing a 10K run amidst picturesque scenery.


The month concluded with members engaging in social runs, including a reconnaissance of the An Res Helly 10-Mile race and a coastal run from Porthtowan to St Agnes, celebrating personal achievements and the club’s community spirit.
