The Carn Runners’ Friday group enthusiastically kicked off the summer dunes season with a dynamic run through the picturesque landscapes of Gwithian Towans. Covering a distance of approximately 4 to 5 miles, the route offered runners a blend of undulating coastal paths and expansive sand dunes, showcasing the natural beauty of Cornwall’s northern coastline.

Beginning at Maen Karne, Upton Towans, participants traversed the Towans—a 1,700-acre stretch of sand dunes recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This area, extending from the Hayle estuary to Godrevy Head, provided a serene backdrop of golden sands and rolling dunes.

The route meandered through diverse terrains, from firm coastal trails to softer sandy stretches, offering both challenges and rewards. Runners were treated to panoramic views of St Ives Bay, with the iconic Godrevy Lighthouse punctuating the horizon.

The ever-changing scenery, from coastal vistas to dune flora, made for an engaging and memorable run. The group’s camaraderie was evident as members encouraged one another, sharing in the collective experience of navigating the undulating terrain.

This run not only celebrated the onset of summer but also highlighted the diverse training grounds available to Carn Runners. As the season progresses, the Friday group eagerly anticipates more such adventures, embracing the challenges and beauty that Cornwall’s coastal paths have to offer.
