On Sunday, January 27th, Carn Runners’ Jan and Dennis braved challenging weather conditions to participate in the Braunton 10 Miler and 10K races in North Devon. Organised by the North Devon Road Runners, these events are renowned for their demanding courses and unpredictable weather.
Despite the rain and gusty winds that persisted throughout the race, Jan delivered an outstanding performance, securing first place in her age category in the 10-mile race. Meanwhile, Dennis achieved a commendable second place in his age category in the 10K event. The adverse weather conditions began to ease near the end of the race, allowing a brief appearance of sunshine as participants crossed the finish line.
After completing the soggy run, both runners appreciated the warm hospitality provided by the North Devon Road Runners. Hot showers and an assortment of tea and cakes awaited participants in the hall, offering much-needed comfort and a chance to reflect on the day’s achievements.
To conclude the day, Jan and Dennis visited the nearby Heanton Court, a charming country pub in Barnstaple. There, they enjoyed a delightful roast meal by a roaring open fire, complemented by stunning views over the Taw estuary. The combination of hearty food, warm ambiance, and picturesque scenery provided a perfect end to an eventful day.
Congratulations to Jan and Dennis for their remarkable performances and for embodying the resilient spirit of Carn Runners. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to all club members, demonstrating that determination and a positive attitude can overcome any challenge.
