February was an eventful month for Carn Runners, featuring participation in notable races, scenic social runs, a weekly club night on Wednesdays with drinks and chatter after and a successful fundraising effort!

Cardinham Half Marathon

On Saturday, February 8th, 2025, several members took on the challenging Cardinham Half Marathon in Cardinham Woods near Bodmin. The demanding course tested runners’ endurance, and our participants showcased remarkable determination. Congratulations to all who completed this rigorous race.

Brown Willy Run

The rescheduled Brown Willy Run took place on Sunday, February 9th, 2025. Starting from the Jamaica Inn, participants traversed the rugged terrain of Bodmin Moor, ascending Cornwall’s highest peak, Brown Willy. Our runners embraced the challenging conditions, embodying the adventurous spirit of the club.

Newquay 10K

Later in the month, members participated in the Newquay 10K, a popular race known for its fast, flat course. Our runners delivered impressive performances, with several achieving personal bests. Well done to everyone who took part in this competitive event.

Granite Way Run

In mid-February, Janet embarked on a brisk 5-mile run along a section of the Granite Way, a scenic trail skirting the northwestern edge of Dartmoor National Park. Janet remarked, “A quick 5-mile blast along part of the Granite Way to blow away the cobwebs. And blow it did! Bitter cold east wind sweeping off Dartmoor, but great views across to Sourton Tor!”

Weekend Coastal Path Adventures

Throughout February, members gathered for Saturday and Sunday runs along Cornwall’s picturesque coastal paths. These routes offered breathtaking sea views and challenging terrains, providing both seasoned runners and newcomers with memorable experiences. The camaraderie and shared enthusiasm during these runs highlighted the club’s spirit.

Friday Valentine’s Day Evening Run

While most couples were exchanging flowers and chocolates on Friday, February 14th, the truly dedicated (or maybe slightly obsessed) Carn Runners were lacing up their trainers for an evening run. The Valentine’s Day run turned into the perfect excuse to earn those romantic dinners guilt-free. With a relaxed pace and plenty of laughs, passing other Carn runners out on their run to the pub most likely! Everyone made it back just in time to swap muddy trainers for something a bit more presentable and enjoy a well-deserved meal with their loved ones.

Monday Night Group

The Monday night group has steadily been used by several members of the club as the nights start drawing our. Recently they tried a big recruitement however found the new members to be very sedintary!

Saturday Social Run: Croust Hut

In addition to coastal path adventures, members joined a Saturday social run starting from the Croust Hut, following the scenic and muddy flat load. This relaxed and fun outing offered runners a chance to connect, enjoy nature, and share a post-run coffee at the hut.

Sunday Run: Bissoe Trail

The Sunday run along the Bissoe Trail was another highlight, blessed with lovely fresh weather that made it a joy to be out. Members took advantage of the calm conditions and scenic route to stretch their legs and breathe in the crisp air. The peaceful surroundings and shared company made for the perfect end to a weekend of running adventures.

In addition to coastal escapades, runners revisited the renowned Storm Force 10-mile route. This course, known for its undulating hills and scenic countryside vistas, allowed members to relive the excitement of the race and maintain their training momentum.

Saturday Tehidy Social

Members enjoyed a social run at Tehidy Country Park. Covering just under 6 miles, the group navigated the park’s diverse trails, which meander through serene woodlands. Tehidy Country Park, encompassing approximately 250 acres, offers over 9 miles of paths, making it a favourite spot for local runners. The run provided an excellent opportunity for members to connect and appreciate the natural beauty of the area.

Cake Sale for NHS Charities Together

Demonstrating a commitment to community support, Carn Runner Claire organised a cake sale during a club night to raise funds for NHS Charities Together. Through the collective efforts of members, an impressive £90.98 was raised. The funds will aid NHS staff, patients, and communities across the UK.
