Lisa’s Marathon Blog (Part 1)
So I’m week 3 into my training plan and running 5 times a week, a lot more for me seeing as I normally have more rest days than run days(so I’m told). My long run was Saturday doing 14 miles, my longest run of 14 miles was last March doing the Mudcrew event “The Dark” so I was feeling a bit nervous. But luckily for me (or unluckily) Juliet had a route all sorted! So we met at Pool School at 8.45. Me, Ceri, Rich, Stacey Juliet and Barry D.
Off we set heading to Tehidy woods out to coombe, through the fields past the cows giving us strange looks, onto the coastal path where we let Rich run onto Hell’s mouth closely followed by the others Barry and I dragging behind. I was being very careful with my footing on this terrain as I do not have a very good history and often fall over.
As soon as Rich reached Hells mouth and turned to come back to find us we also turned and headed back to North Cliffs. After reaching North cliffs we went the road way down to Portreath while the others ran the coast path and steps to Basset cove. Along this road we came upon Helen Rule (Greenfly) out doing her 14 miles. Quick stop and chat to Helen then on again.
We regrouped at Portreath and carried on up to Gwel an mor (nice slog uphill) past the reindeer’s and out to the mining trail with Rich like an excitable puppy looping back for us then going on. Last couple of miles seen us go through Churchtown, through Illogan Park down to Park Bottom through the School Lane and back to Pool School and our waiting cars. Unfortunately for me I was only 13 1/2 miles so off I headed to Pool roundabout (with Juliet keeping me company) and back to get my 14 miles.
Poor Barry only wanted to do 12ish miles but ended up doing the whole route. After a quick stretch it was home for a shower and few hour’s rest before my works dinner and dance where I invented a new dance called “the 14 mile shuffle” and a well earned 3 course meal. Here’s to next weekend when I do it all again!
Happy running
